TTL provide support to the UK MoD for the Large Area Smoke System (LASS):



• Maintenance services for in-field units based in the UK and Canada
• Research and development of solutions to new challenges in the countermeasures arena
• Supply of new equipment
• Training for operators and maintenance personnel within the UK MoD

TTL hold Design Authority status on behalf of the MoD for the seacell. This is a salt water activated battery used for initiation of military flares, primarily used as a marking aid for rescue activities at sea. Significant design changes were required to improve reliability and TTL were selected to undertake this development program. TTL now also manufactures the seacell in a dedicated production facility in Wales.

TTL have developed a one-man portable variant of the LASS, the Compact Screening System, CoSS. This has been demonstrated to UK MoD forces and trialled on a variety of vehicles, both land and water based. Although it is significantly smaller than LASS it can produce approximately 50% of the output, providing a real alternative to pyrotechnic smoke.
